Joining the likes of Topshop, Zara and River Island, H&M has landed on Cape Town shores. The much anticipated (and long anticipated) arrival of H&M has been welcomed by a glitzy double storey flagship store in the Waterfront. The Waterfront has been bustling with unusually high volumes of human traffic since the official opening on 17 October, so I’ve steered away from all the commotion until today. The store boasts an upstairs and downstairs floor, the one ladieswear and other menswear, including an activewear, kids and accessories department amongst others. Just in time for summer, H&M is yet another addition to the Waterfront’s choice of A list stores.
Fringes and Tassels have an amazing way of adding texture and movement to an outfit. My recent purchase of a Country Road tassel bag (pictured on my moodboard) is one of my best purchases yet, adding texture and interest to minimal outfits. On the catwalk for Spring/Summer 2015 Etro and Fendi stood out, with amazing surface texture and surface design, using laser cutting, applique’ and Native American/ethnic surface detailing to add interest and a free spirited bohemian feel to their collections.

Season in Cape Town flies by at warp speed, with hardly any time to reflect on what’s gone on from one job to the next. As a stylist you get booked on a multitude of different genre jobs from fashion campaigns, commercials and catalogues to prop styling. The Spring Summer 2015 kids campaign was one where I did the props styling, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Now in winter, with time to reflect and grey skies outside, it’s inspiring to see how bright pops of colour and pantone swatches turned into electric painted beach huts, colourful bunting and bright surfboards for the beach shoot, whilst a more pastel country palate combined with fabric tee pees, large windmills, flowers and carts featured in the country version of the campaign. I even got to work with my goddaughter Maia (in the blue jumpsuit) for the country shoot. Doing kids props is really fun and whimsical and takes one back to the playful thought process of being a child. I really had fun with this one.
