Focus On :: Dip Dying

Dip dye, Colourbleed, Ombre. For anyone fascinated with gradient, this is the ultimate way to explore the tonal effect of colour . Like a drop of dissolving ink into water, the inbetween subtle gradient of colour provides a harmonious flow of tones rather than the starkness of colour blocking. When done correctly dip dying has a type of  surreal, uncalculated and artistic feel to it, influencing fashion, homeware and decor trends.

Focus On :: Milame Handmade Design

A treasure chest of crafty designs lies in Palmhof Centre just off Kloof Street. Milame and friends is a creative workshop and store that stocks a few hand crafted designer brands from quirky socks, to leather bags and unique jewellery. Feat bamboo and nylon socks caught my eye with their quirky fox print design, while the Ikat print and leather bags by Titch made it onto my wishlist. Between the beautifully bright journals, pieces of art, fabric shoes, woven neckpieces and quirky cat rings, I was really impressed by the selection of items curated by Emma Atkinson in her store. Pop down and take a look for yourself.

SS ’14: Art is in the Air

Following on from my last post, below are a few Spring Summer 2014 campaigns influenced by brush stroke and graphics. From Kenzo’s surreal pop art campaign featuring Devon Aoki, to Christian Louboutin’s literal works of art by artist Peter Lipmann, to Dolce and Gabanna’s map-print boxer-clad statuesque men, the different takes on this trend are as diverse as the genres of art movements that they were influenced by.
